Methods of working
There are a few considerations which may affect how we work. For a
job of any significant size I prefer to have at least one face to face
meeting and this limits me to the area of London's tube network.
Kicking off
After an initial phone conversation (resulting from
your email) about how I might help I would arrange to visit you
to agree initial scope and requirements, and if possible to bring away
enough information to allow me to come up with a preliminary proposal.
...following through...
The method of working, whether from home or your office will depend on circumstances.
Frequently requests and completed items can be transferred by email
for checking and approval. In the case of a large job it may be necessary
for a second
visit before the final completion and approval.
...and After
In many cases the work would end there. In some cases, especially web page
designs, there will be a need to keep the designs up to date. In such cases
I would either train you to make your own changes or may agree to make
the changes myself and upload them from my home provided you have selected
an acceptable
ISP.
Use of software
For a one-off design you won't be too interested in which programs I use. If
you plan to make future changes yourself, however, we will need to use compatible
programs. I have a wide range of programs available or can use yours. Unless
agreed otherwise I shall be using the following programs:
| Newsletters and brochures |
Corel Wordperfect 12/ MS Word 2000/Adobe Indesign 2 |
| Diagrams and illustrations |
Xara Xtreme/Adobe Illustrator 9 |
| Web navigation aids |
Xara Xtreme/Macromedia Fireworks MX |
| Photo enhancements | Adobe Photoshop 6 |
| Web pages | Macromedia Dreamweaver MX/WordPad |
| Spreadsheets | MS Excel |
| Relational databases | MS Access 2000 |
| Portable documents | Adobe Acrobat 5 |
Costs
I would normally expect to be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses such as
travelling costs, agreed in advance.
